Tarot Deck Review – Mystical Medleys – A Vintage Cartoon Tarot by Gary Hall

Welcome to Dark Reads & Deck Reviews! Today I’m sharing the fabulous Mystical Medleys Tarot deck. Many thanks to Liminal 11 for sending me a copy of the deck for review.

The Mystical Medleys is an 80 card Tarot deck based on the RWS system. The deck is beautifully illustrated in a Vintage Cartoon style.

The Box

OK. I know I always go on about Liminal 11 boxes but they really have hit the sweet spot with these. They are always well made and look great on the shelf.

As usual the art of the deck appears on the box with little quirks inside the magnetic fastening and inside the box itself. They are compact and everything fits inside perfectly.

The Guidebook

Again lovely little guidebook. Hard cover and written really well. The meanigs give a fun lighthearted discription of the cards based on the traditional meanings.

The Major cards get a colour image of the card along with a full page for the meaning.

The Minors have a paragraph for each meaning. Even though these are shorter it is a paragraph and not just a list of key words.

The Cards

The Cards are 120 x 70 mm, each printed in full colour on a matt finish paper stock. The colours really do jump out of these cards.

The card backs are beautiful, fully reversable and quirky.

I think this deck is really cleaver. The art style is endearing and light hearted but still encorprates all of the symolisim you would expect in a Tarot deck. There are lots of elements to the cards, every time I pick up one of these cards I notice something new.

This art style really makes me feel nostalgic. It takes me right back to when I was little, I had a set of video tapes all done in this style, there was Little Lulu, Balloon Land and the pincushion man and Betty Boop, I just love it.

I mean how cuuute are these! This may be my favourite 8 of Wands EVER!
Even the 9 of Swords portrays the card perfectly but is endearing at the same time.

There are also two bonus cards. Get ready for cuteness overload!

I really do love this deck. It brings a lighthearted and endearing feeling to the Tarot and at the same time has all of the meaning and symbolisim you would expect to see in a traditional deck.

The art is simply awesome and the guidebook is beautifully written.

You can get yourself a copy from Liminal 11 directly or via Amazon.

  1. Well firstly I’d like to say thank you to the reviewer for placing photos out of these cards so we can really see the fun and beauty within them . As an easy 80s child I can appreciate the type of character behind the cards and I think they really are a whole special deck . I like that the deck comes with a long and short version of explanation , this really does help someone who is new to the cards or new to tarot cards and I’m so impressed that was taken on board . The packaging looks amazing and also the booklet that comes with it looks detailed so you really can’t go wrong . I’m so glad this man stepped away to produce such amazing art with these cards and thank you to the reviewer for a detailed review with all information covered even down to size . Thank you both
