Book Review – Along The River Of Flesh by Kristopher Triana

Welcome back to Dark Reads, today I have a review of Along the River Of Flesh by Kristopher Triana.

Along The River Of Flesh is the sequel to Gone To See the Riverman, the book picks up the story at the point we finished the first book.

Edmund Cox has escaped from Prison and is making his way back to his home town to pay a visit to the River Man.

The story follows several narratives, as well as Edmond we follow Keith, the police detective who originally captured Edmund and is determined to re-capture him to save his career. Keith’s path crosses with Gary’s, a PI who is in the area looking for information regarding a missing person and potential victim of Edmunds. The two decide to continue on together along the River to find Edmund and any information regarding the missing girl.

A little bit later they meet June, another seemingly obsessed Edmund groupie.

All of these characters have dark things in their pasts and as they travel along the river, they begin to have visions and flashbacks to the dark secrets in their pasts. I really liked this as it mirrors what we were seeing from the characters in the first book.

It is clear that Triana is excellent at writing characters that you hate. There are the characters that you know you are going to hate because of the awful things they do, but there are also characters that you learn to hate the more you get to know them. I mean Keith, what an asshole, hated him!

There was a quote in the book that captures these characters perfectly – ‘The Cobra looks down upon the Rattlesnake, yet they are both filled with venom’

As in the first book this is a story that has supernatural horror but the real horror is the human monsters. This book was more gory than the first, but is really heavy on the psychological horror which I loved.

Again this was easily a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me, I couldn’t put it down. I really want more of this story from where it finished. I’m really hoping that we will get a third book in this series!

I also reviewed this on TikTok, you can check it out here.
