Review – Marked For Sorrow by Y M Miller

Welcome back to Dark Reads, today I want to talk about Marked For Sorrow by Y M Miller.

I was lucy enough to receive an ARC of the book so many thanks to Yvonne for that.

Marked For Sorrow is a Gothic horror novella set in the Scottish Mooreland’s. We follow Charlotte and Oliver who are grieving a miscarriage. They have recently moved into a beautiful gothic manor house. The couple are aware that the house has a dark past, but they both share a fascination of the macabre and the supernatural so this doesn’t put them off.

Charlotte continues to learn more about the property’s history through archived diary entries from previous residents and begins to experience strange visions, sensations and dreams. When renovation work starts in the basement they discover just how macabre the history is.

Marked Sorrow is an eerie, sad story with brilliant imagery. The misty Moorland’s are the perfect backdrop for a Gothic • haunted house story. I love the ties into Celtic Folklore and the ending was fantastic.

I have to credit Y M Miller for really capturing the devastation of child/pregnancy loss, it is a difficult subject matter and it was handled and written beautifully.

If you are a fan of Gothic horror, haunted house stories and ties to folklore this is one to check out.

Marked For Sorrow is available on Godless now and paperback will be released on 4th May
