Review – Voracious by Wrath James White

Welcome back to Dark Reads, today I have a review I’m really excited to share with you, it’s for Voracious by Wrath James White and I was lucky enough to receive an ARC.

I have been meaning to dive into White’s work for some time and OMG this did not disappoint! This was gore from the word go. I love the writing style and how descriptive this was, this book goes there! (check your triggers)

Bio Horror and cannibalism are two of my favourite tropes and this did not disappoint.

Originally published in 2013 and re-published today by Cemetery Dance.

We start off following a character called Lelani, she is a model and has been struggling with keeping weight off as she is approaching her 40’s.

Lelani has had a new (unregulated) weight loss treatment that claims to be a one treatment fix that will make the weight fall off while eating exactly what you want. Thing is, since having the treatment Lelani is becoming increasingly ravenous and cannot satisfy her hunger and still the weight is coming off.

The treatment has been made by isolating the pigmy shrew’s metabolism gene, they have one of the fastest metabolisms of any animal and they don’t store fat…On the down side because of this they have to eat every two hours just to stay alive and because of this they are savage killers because they are always hungry!

We get chapters on several patients who have had this miracle treatment and their decent into uncontrollable hunger and the savagery that goes with it. When you are that hungry literally NOTHING if off the table.

I loved everything about this book, the writing is perfect, the violence and gore is on another level and I read it in one sitting. This is my new favourite book so far this year and I now need to read everything by Wrath James White.
