Deck Review – Dark Forest Rune Deck by La Muci Design

Welcome to Dark Reads & Deck Reviews. Today I’m sharing a beautiful Rune Deck with you.

La Muci Design is an amazing little one stop shop for all things witchy and neo, it really is a hidden gem. Many thanks to Esra for sending me a copy of the Deep Forest deck for review.

About The Deck

As you would expect the Deep Forest Rune Deck is a 24 card deck, on 300 gsm professional card stock.

The Cards are poker card size (so cute!) which is 2.5” x 3.5”. I find sometimes with a smaller deck if the card stock is too thick I can make shuffling difficult but these are perfectly balanced. They overhand and riffle even with only 24 cards!

Against a standard size Tarot card

This little deck comes in a basic tuck box which makes perfect sense to me as there are only 24 cards. They would fit perfectly into a tin, I keep mine in a pouch.

The deck doesn’t come with a guide book. With this being a Rune Deck it isn’t an issue for me but may be something to consider if you are new to Runes. Having said that there is a Guide to this deck and how to use it on the La Muci Design website which is really nice.

From the website;

Runes are an ancient form of oracle used by those seeking advice. Runes have a long history, dating back to ancient use by Germanic and Nordic tribes, and are still widely used in today’s society. Anyone can have a rune reading, but it’s also fun to be able to learn how to use them yourself. Here’s a guide to all you need to get started with using runes.

What Can Runes Be Used For?

The runes can be used to help guide you through problems or issues and help show you what is likely to happen. They’re not a form of fortune-telling and don’t offer exact answers or give you advice – rather they offer different variables and suggest how you could behave if the event does occur. Runes are known for hinting towards answers but leaving you to work out the details, which is where intuition is helpful.

Runic readers acknowledge that the future isn’t fixed and that individuals have the power to follow their own path and make their own decisions. So if you don’t like the guidance that a rune reading provides, you’ve got the power to change your direction or your path, and follow a different route.

Runes can be used in many different situations. For example, one of the occasions, when it can be useful to consult the runes, is if you’re in a situation where you have limited information, or can only see an incomplete picture.

How to Get Started With Using Runes

Find a quiet place to do your reading and start by having a period of quiet, where you clear your mind and focus on the reading you’re about to do. Think about the issue or question you have in mind and, if you so desire, you can say a prayer or call upon higher spirits to guide you with your reading.

Your cloth should be spread on the table in front of you, ready for the runes to lay upon it.

There are various different types of rune castings you can do – which are similar in idea to tarot layouts – but on your very first attempt, you might just like to start by picking out between one rune and analyzing its significance.

This is also quite a useful method to use if you’re feeling unsure or uncertain – picking out one single rune can give you something to focus on.

Once you feel happy to progress, then have a go at some of the rune layouts and casts.

This deck is €23 you can order a copy on the Website or Esra’s Etsy page

The Cards

I really do love this little deck, the cards are clear and to the point. Each card has a border with the dark forest background with each Rune in the middle. There are also keywords on each card which is perfect for learning the Runes and their meanings.

I have heard people say that Ruins on cards is not the same as actually having casting Ruins and I get that. But I really like to have them on these cards, they are perfect for pulling a daily card or for adding to a Tarot or Oracle spread. Having some keywords there on the cards is a brilliant learning tool as well.

I’m going to show you all of the cards set out in the 3 Aetts.

Card backs
The First Aett  –  Freya’s Aettir. The first Aett represents the ‘life cycle’
The Second Aett – Hagal’s Aettir – Represents the external forces put upon us.
The third Aett – Tyr’s Aettir – the internal forces that help us deal with the external forces from the second Aett.

The Deep Forest Rune Deck gets a thumbs up from me. The quality is great and it looks and feels lovely. The keywords are nicely chosen considering there are so many that could be used for each Rune.

As always I’m passionate about promoting indie creators and Esra and La Muci Design is fantastic. As well as this beautiful deck there are Tarot, Oracle and Lenormand decks and many more witchy goodies. If you haven’t discovered her work already I suggest you go have a look!

  1. What an amazing deck , they look great and are easy to carry around if you are needing cards on the go . Brilliant review with regards to the details of the cards with size and also thank you for letting know about the meaning being on the website, that’s very handy and I see that as a positive so I would be able to access the website and know the meanings and nobody else would be able to just pick my cards up and disturb my energy on them . Thank you for an excellent review on these beautiful rune cards
