Welcome to Dark Reads, today I’m reviewing book 1 of The Gift Trilogy for my stop on the Random Things Blog Tour. Many thanks to Anne for inviting me to take part and for providing me with a copy of the book to review.
About The Book

The North Atlantic, 14 April 1912. Amid the chaos of the sinking Titanic, a young Eleanor Annenberg meets the eyes of a stranger and is immediately captivated.
As the ship buckles around them, she follows him down into the hold and finds him leaning over an open sarcophagus, surrounded by mutilated bodies. She catches but a glimpse of what lies within before she’s sucked into a maelstrom of freezing brine and half-devoured corpses.
Elle is pulled out of the water, but the stranger – and the secrets she stumbled upon – are lost. Unintentionally, however, he leaves her a gift; one so compelling that Elle embarks on a journey that pulls her into a world of ancient evils, vicious hunters and human prey to find the man who saved her that fateful night.
From trench warfare at Cape Helles in 1915 to a shipwreck in the tropical shallows off the Honduran coast, from a lost mine beneath the towering Externsteine in a Germany on the verge of war to the gothic crypts of Highgate Cemetery in London, Elle gets closer to a truth she has sought for most of her life. But at what cost? Gifts, after all, are seldom free.

Dark Reads Review
What an interesting read this was! This is 100% right up my street. It really gave me nostalgic vibes of movies I loved as a child (although much more sinister), The Goonies and Indiana Jones with that feeling of adventure and expedition. Along with that there is an eerie Gothic feel throughout. Loved it.
The story is told in a really clever way, the plot is discovered in parts over various locations and times which keeps the reader engaged. I don’t want to go into too much detail here as I don’t want to spoil anything, what I will say this is most definitely a page turner.
The storytelling is excellent. From the first page the narrative totally captures you and it feels almost like you are there.
I didn’t want the book to finish and I am impatiently awaiting the next book in the trilogy!
The Gift is a beautifully written Gothic adventure and is immersive and eerie. What’s not to love!?
